Hammondville – DeKalb County

A Hammondville home search becomes more practical when you separate the town’s responsibilities from services handled elsewhere. A pothole report, a household trash account and a business-license question do not all go to the same desk. Knowing that difference can save a second trip—and helps you plan the less glamorous parts of moving before the boxes arrive.

Who handles everyday services in Hammondville?

The town’s website places Hammondville along U.S. 11 near Interstate 59 and gives the municipal contact at 37646 U.S. Highway 11, Hammondville, AL 35989, 256-635-6374. Use the town office for municipal questions, but do not assume that a town address makes every utility or collection service a Town Hall account.

What you need Responsible route Useful distinction
Town street or municipal-property maintenance Hammondville Public Services Town Public Works lists potholes, signs and municipal property maintenance.
Household sanitation signup The town’s Henagar service handoff Hammondville directs applicants to Henagar; ask about the actual address and collection schedule.
Business-license application Hammondville’s business-license instructions NEUMO, formerly Avenu, handles licenses; licensing is not the same as permission for a proposed property use.

How do I arrange trash service before moving in?

Hammondville’s Public Services page carries the sanitation expansion notice naming Hammondville, with a July 1, 2025 start date. It links a standard signup form and a separate application for households whose only income comes from the Social Security Administration; eligibility is conditional, not an automatic free-service promise. The page also offers an in-person application route at Henagar City Hall and 256-657-6282 for questions.

Use that contact to establish service at the home you are considering, including the collection day, appropriate container and current charges. The notice names an area; it does not certify pickup at every property. Keep the application route separate from online bill payment, which is useful once you have an account but does not by itself establish service.

Will ordinary pickup take a moving-day cleanout?

Not necessarily. Henagar’s sanitation rules accept household trash in bags with the lid able to close; they exclude hazardous waste, metal and appliances. The page says blue cans are not emptied. Those are important distinctions when a move produces both everyday rubbish and unwanted equipment.

For extra household volume, the operator lists a paid second weekly pickup on Friday if requested before 3 p.m. Thursday. It also offers monthly rental of 20-yard dumpsters. Ask the office which option fits the material and address rather than leaving excluded items beside a regular can. The separately advertised free quarterly dumpster week is for Henagar city residents only; being a Hammondville collection customer does not establish that residency benefit.

Where do I report a street issue or ask about a home-based business?

Hammondville lists pothole repair, street and pedestrian signage, and maintenance of town buildings and property among Public Works responsibilities. Give the town office the specific location and issue so it can establish responsibility; that list is not a claim that every highway, private lane or neighboring road is town-maintained.

For business licensing, the town’s current business page directs applicants to NEUMO at 800-556-7274, with phone-menu selections 1, then 6, then 1. It describes an annual licensing process. Before planning customer visits, equipment storage or another business activity at a home, distinguish the license from the proposed use of the property: ask Town Hall which office must address that use and give the licensing representative the actual location and activity. This guide does not establish parcel jurisdiction or permission to operate.

Plan a separate visit beyond the errands

Hammondville’s location can be a starting point for exploring the surrounding DeKalb County area, but the regional destinations have their own entrances and operators. The guide to DeSoto and Little River Canyon outings separates the main state park, waterfall area and canyon visits. Use it for that next decision rather than treating every scenic destination as a quick stop between appointments.

For the home itself, make the first comparison concrete: which office handles your request, whether collection is established at the address, and what a cleanout would require. Then try the outing you would genuinely repeat. A workable combination of household logistics and ordinary recreation tells you more than a broad promise that everything is nearby.
