Madison – Limestone / Madison Counties

Madison is one city in two counties: Limestone and Madison. For a home search, that is more than a map detail. The city’s own service directory identifies different electricity contacts by county and more than one possible water provider on the Limestone side. Pair that address-level groundwork with a real park visit, and you can compare the routine a home supports rather than relying on “Madison” as a catch-all label.

Why do the city and county both matter?

The incorporated City of Madison is not the same geography as Madison County or every address using Madison as its mailing city. The city’s Planning and Zoning resources link an address-searchable GIS portal and zoning map. Start there for the municipal question, then keep the correct county’s parcel record with the address. The boundary illustration on this page is a Census 2024 orientation map, not a current parcel or zoning determination.

Who provides utilities on each side of Madison?

The city’s utility directory makes these distinctions for residents of the city. Use them to reach the right provider, then confirm the exact property and connection requirements.

Service Madison County portion Limestone County portion
Electricity Huntsville Utilities: 256-535-1200 Athens Utilities: 256-233-8750
Water Madison Utilities: 256-772-0253 Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority: 256-233-6445 and/or Madison Utilities: 256-772-0253

The “and/or” in the city’s Limestone-side water listing matters: the table is not a service-boundary map. Ask which provider serves the actual parcel, whether an existing connection can be transferred, and what a new connection would require. Water availability alone should not be treated as confirmation of sewer availability. Keep connection timing and any required work separate from a provider’s general presence in the area.

How do I verify the school district for a Madison address?

Madison City Schools publishes a School Zones page with a School Locator and county property-tax links. Its instructions specifically tell people considering a Madison mailing address on the Limestone side to verify the home’s location within the district. The page asks for the latest tax year and the relevant tax district or municipality in the supporting property-tax documentation.

Use those district resources for the intended school year, then have the district resolve any uncertain address or program question. The district central number is 256-464-8370. Neither a nearby school nor a Madison postal address establishes enrollment; this guide has not run a property through the locator or approved a student’s assignment.

Choose a park visit that matches the routine you want

Dublin Memorial Park, 8324 Madison Pike, Madison, AL 35758 is a useful starting point for comparing an outdoor walk with indoor recreation. The city facility page lists a paved walking trail, an indoor pool, a gymnasium and an upstairs walking track. It also publishes separate center-use fees: an outdoor walk and a scheduled swim or indoor visit are not interchangeable plans. For current program and access details, the park contact is 256-772-9300.

For a creek corridor instead, the city’s greenway page identifies Bradford Creek access at Palmer Road and Mill Road, with parking at the Bradford Creek Trailhead. That page also distinguishes management: Bradford Creek is maintained by Madison, while Indian Creek Greenway is maintained by Huntsville. My Indian Creek access and everyday-routine guide helps separate its sections and plan a return. A planned connection on a map is not proof of a continuous route from a home.

Where do property-project questions go?

Madison’s Planning and Zoning page separates applications for home businesses, work in the historic district, site plans and variances or special exceptions. Describe the proposed work and address before selecting a form; the existence of an application does not mean the proposal is allowed. For a purchase involving changes, this is a different investigation from establishing electricity service or school enrollment.

Turn the comparison into a useful home search

Keep one short record for each home: city and county, the provider responses, the district confirmation, and the trip to the park or greenway you would actually use. For the wider setting, compare the Madison County guide with the Limestone County guide. The same city can sit in either county; the localities and service questions should not be collapsed into one county assumption.

Tell me what you want your Madison routine to include and I can help organize the search around your work, errands and property priorities. An attractive setting becomes more useful when the practical details work for your actual address.
