Lexington – Lauderdale County

Lexington sits in Lauderdale County, but being in the county does not put every home on the county’s collection route. That distinction is especially useful when planning a move here. Combine it with the town’s separate water, library and senior-center schedules, and you have a more useful starting point than a single list of local amenities.

Does county garbage collection apply inside Lexington?

No: Lauderdale County Solid Waste’s published service description excludes Lexington municipal limits, as well as Florence, from its residential collection area. The same page excludes Lexington from the county’s residential yard-debris pickup. A Lexington postal address outside the municipal boundary is a different question from a home inside town.

Before arranging move-out cleanup, use the exact property address to establish the applicable service. For an address inside town, start with Town Hall rather than placing a pile based on the county schedule. For a county-served address, the county’s contact is 256-760-5878. Its ordinary cart rules allow bagged household garbage, not yard debris or construction materials. Do not turn a countywide landfill option into an assumption that a particular curbside load will be collected.

Which Lexington office or community service should I contact?

The town department directory gives different hours for different routines. Town Hall is at 11060 Highway 101, Lexington, AL 35648; that address is not a substitute for the library or senior-center destination.

Purpose Published weekday hours Direct contact
Town Hall Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. 256-229-5221
Water Department 8 a.m.–4 p.m., within the town’s weekday office schedule 256-229-5583
Public library Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. 256-229-5579
Senior Center Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. 256-229-8810

The later library closing can fit a different errand window from Town Hall. For a first senior-center visit, ask the center about the activity, eligibility and any meal arrangements; its opening hours alone do not establish those details.

Is the water-payment link also an application for service?

The town links to Lexington Water’s Payub portal, whose quick-payment screen uses a customer number and PIN from an existing bill. Registered-account features include billing history and automatic payments. That is a route for an existing utility account, not evidence that a new home has an active connection or that a new customer has been approved.

For a move, contact the Water Department about the property and start date before using a payment screen. Keep any account credentials or billing details within the utility’s own process; a real-estate inquiry does not need them.

How do the Lexington school contacts differ from the town office?

The school pages are part of Lauderdale County Schools, not Town Hall. Lexington High School’s own description identifies grades 7–12. Both its page and the elementary school contact page publish 101 School Street, Lexington, AL 35648 and 256-229-6622. When calling, state which school and student grade you need so the shared contact does not become a confusing handoff.

The names on these pages identify the schools; they do not assign a property to them. Give the school or district the actual residential address for enrollment and transportation questions. This is especially important when comparing homes with the same mailing town but different locations.

How can I plan an ordinary visit rather than chase an old event listing?

The town’s official homepage identifies A. L. Phillips Park through its event notices, but the July 11, 2026 festival is past and the posted food-truck season runs April–October 2026. Those dated notices are not a year-round activity calendar. Use the town contact for a future event or facility arrangement rather than carry an old date into your plans.

As you move from exploring to settling in, make the first-night routine part of the preparation too. The North Alabama weather-alert setup guide explains how a weather radio, phone alerts and local notifications serve different roles. It is a useful next step after establishing the home’s actual county, without assuming outdoor sirens will provide an indoor wake-up plan.
