Hytop is a town in Jackson County where a gathering at the community park and a hike toward the Walls of Jericho are very different outings. I would choose the day around the people coming with you, not simply around the nearby landmark: an indoor meal, a covered picnic and a difficult trail each need a different plan.

Should I rent the community center, the pavilion or both?

The town’s facility information distinguishes an indoor community center with a kitchen from an outdoor roofed pavilion with picnic tables and bathrooms. Its published prices, checked October 31, 2026, are below; confirm the current total and availability before inviting guests.

The center’s listed kitchen includes a stove, microwave, sink and refrigerator. Its furniture listing is not an approved occupancy limit; ask about the guest count and setup you need. For an outdoor gathering, a pavilion roof is not the same as an indoor weather backup. If you need both spaces, confirm both rather than assume one reservation includes the other.

What does the reservation include—and what stays public?

The town’s park rental agreement identifies Hytop Park at 30334 Alabama 79, Scottsboro, AL 35768. It says rentals are for a full day, not partial days, and are not held until the rental fee and deposit are paid. Other park facilities remain public during an event.

The agreement requires a renter to be at least 18, prohibits alcohol anywhere on park property, and makes cleaning and damage part of deposit return. Read the full cleanup list before assigning the last volunteer to leave. It also requires at least 30 days’ cancellation notice; clarify the precise deadline and deposit consequences for your event before paying, because the form’s cancellation wording is not a substitute for a confirmed booking conversation.

Do not plan it that way. Alabama Forever Wild’s Walls of Jericho page describes a difficult six-mile round trip, while its general hiking directory describes seven miles. Both characterize it as difficult. Treat those differing descriptions as a reason to check the current route and map, not as evidence of an easy shortcut.

The trail descends toward Hurricane Creek and continues along Turkey Creek; the return is part of the commitment. Plan sufficient daylight, water and a turnaround decision for your group. Current weather and trail conditions can change the outing, and a rental at the town park gives no assurance about trail access.

Forever Wild distinguishes the northern Highway 79 hiking parking area from the southern horseback-trail parking area. The same northern hiking area also serves the 4.7-mile Bear Den Point loop, which is a different route from the Walls. Choose the route and trailhead deliberately rather than follow the first parking sign with the landmark’s name.
