Section – Jackson County

A Section visit can combine a short overlook walk with the practical questions that make a move work. Weathington Park introduces the Tennessee River landscape; a home purchase still needs its own service and property checks. In particular, starting an account at a meter already in place is a different job from arranging a new water connection.

Where can I get a first feel for Section?

Jackson County’s tourism office describes Weathington Park at 6230 Tammy Little Drive, Section, AL 35771 as a free, dawn-to-dusk overlook stop. Its published amenities include a flat quarter-mile loop, paved walking trail, viewing decks, benches, picnic areas and bathrooms. That makes a short walk and picnic a more natural plan than treating the overlook as a trailhead for a long backcountry outing.

The tourism page describes the walking trail as ADA-compliant; confirm any individual access requirement and current conditions rather than treating that description as a guarantee for every visitor. Plan to finish before dusk. A river view from a public park also does not establish private shoreline access from a nearby home. If the search expands to waterfront property, work through the Jackson County-area dock and shoreline permission questions separately.

Does the home already have a water meter?

The Waterworks Boards of Section and Dutton publishes different requirements for these two situations. First establish that the utility serves the address; its name and the town boundary are not a parcel-level service map.

Situation Useful documents to assemble Published charge context
New account at an existing meter Photo ID, meter number, full 911 address, previous occupant; a rental agreement or deed/tax receipt as applicable Homepage lists a $100 account setup fee.
New meter installation Photo ID, deed or land-tax receipt, full 911 address and directions with road numbers Homepage lists $1,000 for a new ¾-inch service plus $100 account setup.

The board also requests a neighbor’s full name. Give account information directly to the utility, not through a public comment or an unrelated property inquiry. A published fee is not confirmation that a new connection can be supplied at a particular lot.

What costs and office arrangements should I confirm before moving?

The board’s June 2026 newsletter separately lists a $25 reconnection fee and a $100 account setup fee, as well as different charges for larger new services. Do not assume that every move is a reconnection or that the homepage’s new-account figure includes every charge. Tell the office whether the meter exists, whether service is active and whether the request is for an account transfer or physical installation; ask for the applicable total and timing.

The utility’s contact page places the office at 87 Circle Drive, Rainsville, AL 35986, with weekday hours of 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. and telephone 256-638-2119. The utility office is in Rainsville, not at Section’s municipal office. Jackson County’s Section municipal directory lists 256-228-3280 for town questions. Keeping those contacts separate prevents a service-start errand from becoming an unnecessary trip.

Turn a scenic visit into a useful home-search day

Visit the park, then make the ordinary drive your household would repeat and identify which service-start situation applies to each property. For an existing house, save the meter and account questions with the inspection and closing notes. For a lot, obtain the actual connection requirements before treating a published new-service price as the complete development budget. The view helps you understand the setting; documented access and service arrangements help you compare homes.
