A Triana move can involve several different milestones: the house is ready, its permanent utilities are authorized, the new account is arranged and the previous account is closed. Those steps do not necessarily happen together. Use the town’s published processes to ask more specific questions before a closing, rental move or proposed addition, then make time for the community routines you want to build.

Map sources and notes
What connects a completed home to permanent utility service?
Triana’s Building Department says a Certificate of Occupancy is required to establish permanent electricity and, where applicable, natural-gas service with Huntsville Utilities. The town sends that certificate directly to Huntsville Utilities. A house that looks finished and a home ready for permanent service are therefore different checkpoints.
For a new home, ask the builder about inspection completion and the certificate handoff before organizing a move around the visible state of construction. For the responsible office, the town lists weekday hours of 7 a.m.–4 p.m. at 640 6th Street, Triana, AL 35756 and 256-772-0151. Permit applications are available in person.
Can I assume a second dwelling is allowed on a larger lot?
No. The same Building Department page describes a separate Planning and Zoning Commission approval step for a secondary residence, accessory dwelling unit or secondary mobile home on an R-1 parcel with an existing primary residence. The written request must identify the parcel and address, the proposed structure’s size and location, and access and easements. Approval is followed by the applicable permits, inspections, addressing and service arrangements; it is not a substitute for them.
The Planning and Zoning page links the town’s zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations and zoning map as separate documents. Its published commission schedule is the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m., with agenda requests due by close of business the preceding Friday. Confirm the meeting and submission requirements for your proposal. The Census outline on this page is not the zoning map and cannot establish a lot’s permitted use.
Which account needs attention when I move in or out?
The Public Works directory lists town water and sewer separately from Huntsville Utilities electricity and natural gas. It directs household garbage and large-pickup questions to Madison County Sanitation, 256-532-3718. Keep those contacts distinct rather than expect one account change to update every service.
The town’s linked residential water application, marked revised August 2019, separates the requested service-start date from the date service actually starts. It also distinguishes owner and renter applications and asks renters for landlord or manager details. Prepare the exact service address and account information; ask the town for the applicable current form and submit personal details through its own process.
| Moving task | Town’s published distinction | Use it in your timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Start the account | Public Works lists a $150 connection deposit. | A deposit is not the total cost of a new tap or service installation. |
| Close the old account | A completed, signed disconnect form must reach Town Hall or the listed town email. | A phone call alone does not close the account. |
| Settle the final balance | The town allows up to 30 days for final billing and any applicable refund. | Do not count a potential refund as immediately available moving money. |
For a new connection or construction, ask about the specific installation and availability charges rather than apply an existing-home deposit to every project. The Huntsville Utilities bill and payment guide answers the next question about that provider’s billing arrangements; it does not replace Triana’s water-account process.
How could I arrange a gathering rather than just visit a facility?
Triana’s Parks and Recreation page distinguishes facility reservations from its after-school and summer program listings. The published gymnasium/community-room rates are $50 per hour on weekdays or $250 per day on weekends, with a $25 refundable cleaning deposit. A separate party package lists one hour in the community room and two hours in the gym for $100.
Choose the space and time you actually need, then obtain the current request form and approval from the town before inviting people. The rate listing does not establish an available date, included equipment or an accepted reservation. Likewise, an after-school or summer-program label does not tell you whether enrollment is currently open.
Keep the home, project and household questions connected
The Madison County guide provides the wider property and school-system handoffs; use the actual address and intended school year rather than assume a postal label determines enrollment. For daily travel, compare the specific worksite and errands using the commute planning guide. Triana’s town processes are useful local facts, not substitutes for a parcel-specific answer or a tested route.
