Hodges – Franklin County

Getting to know Hodges means separating the town, the wider water-service area and the outdoor destinations that use a Hodges address. A group learning trip at Overton Farm is not the same arrangement as a Bear Creek lake day. Those distinctions help you plan a useful first visit and ask better questions about a prospective home.

Which kind of outdoor visit fits my plans?

Your purpose Starting resource What the arrangement means
Organized group learning or recreation Bear Creek Collaborative programs An inquiry and a tailored program, not a guaranteed walk-in visit
A lake day or boat outing Bear Creek lakes first-visit guide Choose the actual reservoir, access point and permit arrangement
Town-office questions Hodges municipal contact Town Hall at 205-935-3445; separate from an outdoor operator

What does Bear Creek Collaborative offer at Overton Farm?

The operator’s site identifies the Bear Creek Education Center at Overton Farm as its Hodges location. Its work combines outdoor learning and recreation, including activities such as kayaking, archery and hiking. That describes its program offerings, not permission to arrive and use equipment independently.

The program page lists field trips, day and overnight camps, retreats, training and workshops. It welcomes inquiries from schools, homeschool groups, scout troops, nonprofits and other community groups. The inquiry route lets the team shape the visit around the group rather than treating every outing as one fixed admission product.

For a group you are helping organize after a move, start with the ages and number of participants, the learning or recreation purpose, preferred dates and any specific access needs. Ask which activities, staffing and facilities can support that group and what the quoted price includes. The operator’s accessibility mission is valuable context, but it is not a substitute for confirming a particular route, transfer or activity arrangement.

Use the operator’s contact information to distinguish the physical destination at 2300 Overton Farm Road, Hodges, AL 35571 from its separate Florence mailing address. The published phone is 256-810-5539. A mailing address is not the meeting point for an outdoor program.

Does the town outline also show the water-service area?

No. A Geological Survey of Alabama assessment based on 2012–2013 fieldwork describes the Hodges Water Department’s distribution area across southern Franklin and north-central Marion counties. That historical service-area distinction is enough to show why a town outline should not be used as a utility map; it does not establish today’s connection availability or water conditions.

For an existing home or a vacant parcel, identify whether the question is a transfer of an existing account or a new connection. Give the actual service address to the responsible utility, rather than relying on a Hodges postal label. The state municipal directory supplies the Town Hall contact, 205-935-3445, as a starting route for town questions. Connection costs, account requirements and service capacity must come from the utility for that property.

How do school-bus areas relate to a Hodges address?

Vina High School’s published bus-route page separately names a Hodges area and a Hodges area including Highway 187. It also lists other routes outside the town. These broad labels are useful for directing a question, but they are not parcel-level attendance boundaries or a confirmed pickup stop.

The page gives 256-332-8859 for route information. Use the actual address and the child’s school assignment when requesting current transport details; do not infer eligibility from a route name or reuse an old bus number as a current schedule.

Choose the destination before comparing the home

For a lake outing, the existing Bear Creek guide explains reservoir names, public entrances, permits and seasonal differences in depth. Use that separate guide instead of assuming every Bear Creek activity begins at Overton Farm. Once the real destination and arrangement are clear, you can compare the actual trip from a prospective property without treating a nearby map label as guaranteed access.
